A predominant, rather hydrophobic natural ceramide. Activates a cytosolic serine/threonine protein phosphatase in T9 cells; induces EGF receptor phosphorylation in A-431 cells; stimulates ceramide-activated protein kinase. Melting Point: 100-102°C Solubility: Chloroform TLC Conditions: Method for Determining Identity:Proton NMR spectroscopic analysis SiO2; Dichloromethane: Methanol; 9:1; Visualized with AMCS; Single spot; Rf=0.65.
