Claudin 3 (Claudin-3, CLDN3, C7orf1, Clostridium perfringens Enterotoxin Receptor 2, CPE-receptor 2, CPETR2, CPE-R 2, CPE-R2, CPETR2, Rat Ventral Prostate.1 Protein Homolog, RVP1, hRVP1)
Description:
Claudins are integral membrane proteins involved in the assembly and function of tight junction strands. Claudins have 4 transmembrane domains and 2 extracellular loops and C-terminal tail containing PDZ-binding motifs and YV sequences. Claudin 3, a human homolog of rat RVP1, is a unique member of this family. It is a low-affinity receptor for Clostridium perfringes entertoxin capable of mediating toxin-dependent cytolysis. Claudin-3 has been found to be phosphorylated and up-regulated in various cancer types suggesting a potential role in tumorigenesis.
