Description:
Desmin is an intermediate filament protein of both smooth and striated muscles. Antibody to desmin reacts with striated (skeletal and cardiac) as well as smooth muscle cells. In skeletal and cardiac muscles, the staining is confined to the Z-bands giving a characteristic striated appearance. Anti-desmin antibody is useful in identification of tumors of myogenic origin. It reacts with leiomysarcomas (smooth muscle) as well as rhabdomysarcomas (striated muscle).
Applications: Suitable for use in Immuofluorescence and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications have not been tested.
Recommended Dilution: Immunohistochemistry (Formalin/paraffin): 1:50-1:100 for 20 min at RT. No special pretreatment is required prior to staining. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Positive Control: Muscle or sarcoma
Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. |
