Prepared by a modified Emanuel and Chaikoff method. Used as a nonspecific DNA blocking agent to reduce the background in nucleic acid hybridization techniques.

Several centimeters in length, white to creamy white fibers.

Comparatively good solubility in water, insoluble in alcohol, organic solvents and diluted acid solutions. Easily soluble in alkaline solutions and reactions.

Lyophilized powder may be stored at 4C. Reconstitute to nominal volume, aliquot and store at 4C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at 4C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
