All purpose medium for the microbiological testing of many food products.

Eugonic Agar was developed by Vera to enhance the growth of fastidious microorganisms. The addition of GC Enrichment supports the growth of Haemophilus, Neisseria, Pasteurella and Brucella. Preparation of chocolate agar with this medium further enhances the recovery time of these fastidious microorganisms. Because of the high carbohydrate content it cannot be used for determining the hemolytic patterns of microorganisms. Finegold recommended Eugonic Agar supplemented with 1% maltose, 0.5% yeast extract and hemin 5 ug/ml for the cultivation of anaerobes. Various workers have used Eugonic Agar for testing food products.
