Used as an alternate carbon source for wild-type yeast and to induce transcription of sequences fused to the GAL10 promoter. Suitable for use in two-hybrid protocols. Galactose is made from lactose through hydrolysis reaction under acidic conditions.

D-Galactose is a C-4 epimer of Glucose found in milk and sugar beets as well as being synthesized by the body. Potential use in oral therapy for nephrotic syndrome in focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis.
