Glucagon-like Peptide 1 (GLP1)
Description:
GLP1 is a processed active peptide of 26aa (chr 2q36-q37). It is a potent insulin secretagogue and plays a major role in the enteroinsular axis, accounting for the finding that plasma insulin levels accompanying oral intake of glucose are greater than those observed when glucose is given intravenously. Glucagon is a member of a multigene family comprising of Secretin, Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP), Gastric Inhibitory Peptide
(GIP) and others like Glicentin and Oxyntomodulin (OXM), which differs from glucagon by C-terminal octapeptide. The glucagon precursor contains at least 3 intervening sequences that divide the protein-coding portion into 4 regions corresponding to the signal peptide and part of the N-terminal peptide, the remainder of the N-terminal peptide and glucagon, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP1), and GLP2. GLP1 and 2 stimulate intestinal growth and upregulate villus height in the small intestine, concomitant with increased crupt cell proliferation and decreased enterocyte apoptosis. The two GLPs are mainly produced in the A cells of the Islets of Langerhans in response to a drop in blood sugar concentration.

Storage and Stability:
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20C. Stable for 12 months at -20C after receipt. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Concentration:
~1mg/ml (after reconstitution)
Immunogen:
Synthetic peptide corresponding to aa7-36 amide of human Glucagon Like Peptide 1, conjugated to KLH.
Purity:
Purified by Protein G affinity chromatography.
Form
Supplied as a lyophilized powder from PBS, pH 7.4. No preservative added. Reconstitute with 10ul sterile ddH2O.
Specificity:
Recognizes human GLP1 (7-36), GLP1 (1-30), C-terminal specific. Does not crossreact with GLP2, GRPP, PYY, VIP, PHI, GIP, Glucagon or Oxyntomodulin. The stated amino acid sequence for the immunogen is found entirely intact in mouse GLP1.
Intended for research use only. Not for use in human, therapeutic, or diagnostic applications.
