GDF-5 acts as an inhibitor of nerve tissue growth. It is produced as a homodimer, nonglycosylated polypeptide chain containing 2X117aa with a molecular weight of 26.8kD. To enable bacterial expression of rhGDF-5 we removed the N-terminal sequence Ala-Pro-Leu-Thr and added the Lys.

Recombinant corresponding to human GDF-5 expressed in E. coli.

Biological Activity:
The biological activity of the protein was measured by induction of alkaline phosphatase activity in ATDC5 cells. The EC50 is 30-50nM.

Storage and Stability:
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20C. Stable for 12 months at -20C. Reconstitute with 20mM HOAc. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
