Hanks' Balanced Salt Solution is designed for use with cells maintained in non-CO2 atmospheric conditions. Phenol red has been shown to interfere with the growth of some cells at cloning densities. Calcium and magnesium support cell adhesion. H1803 is recommended working with stem cells or when growing cells at low densities. H1803 is also recommended to minimize cell attachment or aggregation. HBSS requires 0.35g/L of sodium bicarbonate and pH adjustment prior to filtration. It contains 1g/L of glucose.

Directions per Liter: Dissolve 9.644 grams per liter of distilled/deionized (DDI) water. Heat with stirring until completely solubilized. Adjust pH as necessary with 0.35g/L sodium bicarbonate with stirring when solution has cooled. Sterilize with 0.2um membrane filter. Aliquot into sterile containers. Do not autoclave. Contains heat-labile compounds that can be damaged with autoclaving.

Storage and Stability: Store powdered media at RT. Opened bottles should be capped tightly and kept in a dark, low humidity environment. Prepared media should be kept at 4°C and used within a short period of time.

Appearance: White, homogenous, free flowing powder.

Endotoxin: ~10EU/mg
