Interferon induces a variety of effects on target cells including antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory activities. Interferon a-2b can either inhibit or enhance immune cell activity within the tightly regulated microenvironment of inflammation, depending upon the concentration of the cytokine and the activation stage of the cell. Interferon a-2b was expressed in E. coli and purifed by conventional chromatography, after refolding of the isolated inclusion bodies in a renaturation buffer. Recombinant protein corresponding to aa24-188 of human IFNA2 expressed in E. coli (NP_000596).
