Myostatin (GDF-8) is expressed uniquely in human skeletal muscle as a 12kD mature glycoprotein consisting of 109 amino acid residues and secreted into plasma. Myostatin is a member of the transforming growth factor beta superfamily of secreted growth and differentiation factors that is essential for proper regulation of skeletal muscle mass. Studies have shown that myostatin could play an important role in cardiac development and physiology.

Human Myostatin is created as a recombinant protein with N-terminal fusion of HisTag with added 43 amino acid sequence as a spacer. The Human Myostatin-HisTag, produced in E. coli, is 16.7kD protein containing 109 amino acid residues of human Myostatin and 43 additional amino acid residues for a total of 152aa.

Storage and Stability:
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20C. Stable for 12 months at -20C. Reconstitute by adding acetate buffer. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Form: Supplied as a lyophilized powder from 0.05M acetate buffer, pH 4.5. Reconstitution: Reconstitute with 0.2ml of sterile 0.1M acetate buffer, pH 4. Allow the lyophilized pellet to dissolve completely. For conversion into higher pH value, intensive dilution by relevant buffer to 10ug/ml is recommended. In higher concentrations the solubility of this antigen is limited.
