Penicillin
Description:
Penicillin is a group of Beta-lactam antibiotics used in the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible, usually Gram-positive, organisms. b-lactam antibiotics work by inhibiting the formation of peptidoglycan cross-links in the bacterial cell wall, which results in cytolysis.

Application:
Suitable for use in ELISA. Other applications not tested.

Recommended Dilution:
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.

Hybridoma:
X63-Ag8.653 myeloma cells with spleen cells from Balb/c mice.

Source:
Tissue culture supernatant

Storage and Stability:
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

Immunogen:
Benzylpenicillin labeled with bovine gamma globulins.

Purified by Protein G affinity chromatography.
Form
Supplied as a liquid in PBS, pH 7.2, 0.09% sodium azide.
Specificity:
Recognizes the fused beta lactam/thiazolidine ring of the penicilloyl group. Appears to be sensitive to modification of the shared nitrogen atom of the lactam/thiazolidine ring by substitution or conjugation. Appears insensitive to structure of the side chain of the penicilloyl group. Reacts with the following derivatives and conjugates: benzylpenicillin, Ampicillin, Amoxicillin and 6-Aminopenicillanic acid.
Intended for research use only. Not for use in human, therapeutic, or diagnostic applications.
