Protein C
Description:
Protein C is a vitamin K dependent serine protease zymogen. Purified human activated protein C selectively destroys factors Va and VIII:C in human plasma and thus has an important anticoagulant role. Protein C deficiency has been associated with inherited thrombophilia. In its primary structure, protein C is similar to the prothrombin group of blood coagulation factors. It most closely resembles factor X.
Protein C is synthesized as a single chain; this precursor molecule is cleaved into a light chain and a heavy chain held together by a disulfide bond. The enzyme is then activated by thrombin, which cleaves a tetradecapeptide from the amino end of the heavy chain.

Applications:
Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested.

Recommended Dilutions:
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.

Storage and Stability:

May be stored at 4C for short-term only. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
