Description: RELM:FIZZ family of proteins are Cysteine-rich proteins consist of a highly conserved C-terminal cysteine rich domain and play a vital role in regulation of adipogenesis and insulin resistance. Resistin, a human homolog of mouse resistin, is a novel member of this family. It is a 12kD adipokine which is produced by both brown and white adipose tissue and is mainly secreted by adipocytes. Its levels are down-regulated by insulin and have been shown to be elevated during Type 2 diabetes, indicating a critical role in regulating adipogenesis and insulin resistance. It promotes aortic smooth muscle cell proliferation through activation of ERK1:2 and PI3:Akt signaling pathways. It is expressed in macrophages and functions as a pro-inflammatory cytokine by up-regulating IL-6 and activating NF-kappaB signaling pathway. Its expression is regulated by numerous factors which include PPAR-alpha, Insulin, Growth and gonadal hormones, TNF-alpha, Endothelin-1 and certain pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-6. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 1:500-1:1000 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. |
