Serotonin Receptor 2A (5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A, 5-HT-2, 5-HT2A, 5-HT-2A, HTR2, Serotonin receptor 2A)
Serotonin plays an important role in regulating biological processes in the central and peripheral nervous systems, the cardiovascular system and the gastrointestinal systems. . Physiological, biochemical and pharmacological studies have defined at least thirteen serotonin receptors which are grouped in seven subtypes according to operational, structural and transductional properties. 5-HT2 receptors (5-HT2AR, 5-HT2BR and 5-HT2CR) may be considered as prototypes for the study of serotonin receptors. Their functions are mediated by the second messenger inositol polyphosphate in a G-protein coupled pathway and are expressed in tissues including brain, vascular smooth muscles and platelets. 5-HT2AR mRNAs have been found in only a few areas of the brain, including the frontal cortex, piriform cortex, ventro-caudal part of CA3, motor cranial nerve nuclei in the brainstem, and the ventral horn of the spinal cord. 5-HT2CR mRNA has been found at high levels in many parts of the brain including retrosplenial piriform, and entorhinal cortex, anterior olfactory nucleus, substantia nigra pars compacta, several brainstem nuclei and the whole grey matter of the spinal cord. 5-HT2BR is almost absent in the brain. It is abundantly expressed in stomach fundus. Monoclonal antibodies reacting specifically to 5-HT2AR, 5-HT2BR, and 5- HT2CR will be useful tools in determining the precise anatomical distribution of 5-HR2 receptors.

Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.

Recommended Dilution:
Immunohistochemistry (Formalin fixed paraffin embedded): 10-12.5ug/ml
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.

Storage and Stability:
May be stored at 4C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
