Spectrin, alpha (Spectrin alpha Chain, Spectrin alpha Chain Brain, Spectrin Non-erythroid alpha Chain, Alpha Fodrin, Alpha II Spectrin, FLJ44613, Fodrin alpha Chain, Non-erythrocytic Spectrin alpha, Spectrin alpha Non-erythrocytic 1, SPTAN1, SPTA2)
Description:
Alpha Fodrin is a member of the spectrin family of widely distributed filamentous proteins that form a supporting and organizing scaffold for cell membranes (1). Non-erythroid alpha spectrin, also called Alpha Fodrin, is a major cortical cytoskeletal protein that is implicated in the establishment of specialized membrane-cytoskeletal domains in differentiating cells (2, 3). Cleavage of Alpha Fodrin accompanies apoptosis, induced by activation via the CD3/T cell receptor complex, ligation of the Fas (CD95) molecule and other Fas-expressing cells; it may also be induced by the treatment of cells with staurosporine, dexamethasone, or synthetic ceramide (4). The major products of cleavage are amino-terminal and carboxy-terminal fragments. Antibodies against Alpha Fodrin are observed in diseases characterized by chronic apoptosis (5, 6).

Applications:
Suitable for use in Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry and Immunoprecipitation. Other applications not tested.

Recommended Dilution:
Western Blot: 1:10,000-1:50,000
Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin): 1:500-1:1000
Immunocytochemistry: 1:250-1:500
Immunoprecipitation: 1:10-1:100
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.

Storage and Stability:
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
