Chemokine SDF-1 is highly conserved among species and belongs to a large family of small, structurally related cytokines. It is a chemoattractant for T lymphocytes, monocytes, and hemopoietic stem cells and is constitutively expressed in bone-marrow-derived stromal cells. Recent reports indicate that SDF-1 is the ligand for LESTR/fusin and prevents infection by T-cell-line-adapted HIV-1. SDF-1a and SDF-1b, are generated by alternative RNA splicing of transcripts encoded by a single gene. SDF-1a differs from SDF-1b by four C-terminal amino acid residues absent in SDF-1a. As yet, no functional differences have been reported.

Stromal Cell-Derived Factor-1beta (SDF1b) is a recently discovered protein belonging to the a-chemokine (C-X-C) family of cytokines. Murine SDF1b is an 8.5kD protein containing 72 amino acid residues.

Stability: Lyophilized SDF1b, though stable at room temperature, is best stored desiccated below 0C. Reconstituted human SDF1b should be stored in working aliquots at -20C.

Purity: 98% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses.

Reconstitution: Lyophilized SDF1b is soluble in water and most aqueous buffers. The lyophilized protein can be reconstituted in water to a concentration of 0.1-1mg/ml. It is recommended that further dilutions be made into buffer containing carrier protein or medium containing serum.

Biological Activity: Determined by its ability to chemoattract human monocytes using a concentration range of 50-100ng/ml

Concentration Range for most in vitro applications: 0.1-1mg/ml
