Transforming Growth Factor-alpha (TGF-alpha) is a polypeptide growth factor which stimulates the proliferation of a wide range of epidermal and epithelial cells. TGF-alpha has been shown to play a role in the autocrine growth of certain transformed cells. Human TGF-alpha is a 5.5kD protein containing 50aa residues. The sequence shares approximately 40% sequence homology with EGF, including 6 conserved cysteine residues, which form 3 intramolecular disulfide bonds. Biological Activity: The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by BALB/c 3T3 cells is 0.2ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 5x10e6units/mg. Amino Acid Sequence: VVSHFNDCPD SHTQFCFHGT CRFLVQEDKP ACVCHSGYVG ARCEHADLLA Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
