Selective enrichment medium for Listeria monocytogenes. UVM Modified Listeria Enrichment Broth is a modified formula developed by Donnelly and Baigent of the University of Vermont. Nalidixic acid (20mg/L) inhibits Gram negative microorganisms and acriflavine inhibits Gram positive bacteria. Esculin is utilized by Listeria monocytogenes. Directions per Liter: Dissolve 52g in 800-900ml of ddH2O stirring gently until completely solubilized. Adjust pH of the medium to the desired level. Add additional water to bring the solution to1L. Aliquot into sterile containers. Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes. Storage and Stability: Store powdered media at RT. Opened bottles should be capped tightly and kept in a dark, low humidity environment. Prepared media should be kept at 4°C and used within a short period of time. Appearance: Light beige, homogeneous, free flowing powder Solubility: Greenish-yellow to yellow with faint bluish-green ring at the surface, very slightly opalescent, complete pH: 7.2 ± 0.2 Important Note: This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological.
