Mouse Anti-IRS1 (Insulin Receptor Substrate 1, IRS-1)

IRS-1 regulates most insulin responses, including peripheral and central glucose homeostasis, protein synthesis, and cell proliferation and growth. The protein contains an N-terminal pleckstrin homology (PH) domain and phosphotyrosine-binding (PTB) domain which are necessary for targeting IRS-1 to the activated insulin receptor at plasma membrane, where it becomes phosphorylated in response to insulin stimulation of cells. Once phosphorlated by the insulin receptor, the protein binds specifically to various cellular proteins containing Src homology-2 (Sh2) domain, including phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI-3K), Grb2-Sos, and protein tyrosine phosphatase type 11 (PTPN11 or SHP2). In humans, the pathological role of the protein has been detected in non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. The gene encoding for rat IRS-1 maps to chromosome 9q34.

Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
