Histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3), which is a transcriptional regulator of the histone deacetylase family, subfamily 1. HDAC3 is responsible for the deacetylation of lysine residues on the N-terminal part of the core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4), and some other non-histone substrates. Histone deacetylation plays a role in epigenetic repression and transcriptional regulation, and cell cycle progression.
