Rabbit Anti-Interferon Beta (IFN-beta, Ifnb1, Ifb, Ifnb)
interferon beta (IFN Beta), a 22kD cytokine with wide-ranging antiviral, antimicrobial and antitumor effects. Interferons also serve to activate macrophages, natural killer cells and the presentation of antigens to the immune system by the major histocompatibility complex. The production of interferon is induced in response to microbes and other cytokines. The interferons are widely used to treat a variety of diseases and IFNB in particular is used to treat relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.
Applications
Suitable for use in Neutralization, ELISA, Western Blot, Immunoprecipitation and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Neutralization
One neutralization unit is the amount of antiserum required to neutralize one unit of mouse interferon beta to a 50% endpoint. Interferon was titrated with the use of the cytopathic effect inhibition assay [Rubinstein, S., Familletti, P.C., and Pestka, S. (1981) J. Virol. 37, 755-758] using L929 cells and EMCV as the challenge virus. In this antiviral assay for interferon, about 2.5unit/ml of interferon is the quantity necessary to produce acytopathic effect of 50%. The units are determined by use of a laboratory standard calibrated with respect to the international reference standard for Mu-IFN-beta provided by the National Institutes of Health [Gb02-902-511]. This materialis prepared specifically for effective neutralization of Mu-IFN-beta.
