Celestolide (Crysolide)
1-[6-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-2,3-dihydro-1,1-dimethyl-1H-inden-4-yl]-ethanone; 4-Acetyl-1,1-dimethyl-6-tert-butylindan; 4-Acetyl-6-tert-butyl-1,1-dimethylindan; ADBI; Crysolide; Esperone

Used for fragrance compositions and perfumes with long-lasting fragrance. Celestolide is a chemical that has been synthesized for use as an EPA-approved chemical for wastewater treatment, as well as a feedstock for the production of pharmaceuticals. It has been shown to have high resistance to nitro and acid hydrolysis and is stable in the presence of organic solvents, such as methanol or acetone. Celestolide is also resistant to human serum degradation, making it an excellent candidate for protein analysis using analytical methods such as dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE) or solid phase microextraction (SPME). The reaction mechanism of celestolide is not well understood. It may be a prodrug that undergoes enzymatic activation by phosphodiesterase and/or phosphodiesterase-like enzymes.
