Neophytadiene is a novel antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of methanol-soluble oxidation catalysts. It has been shown to have a protective effect against oxidative stress, which may be due to its ability to maintain mitochondrial membrane potential and reduce reactive oxygen species production. Neophytadiene also has an anti-inflammatory effect on lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation in vitro and in vivo studies. In addition, neophytadiene can bind with fatty acids and carotenoids, which may lead to its cardioprotective effects.
