Ponatinib is a novel potent, orally available small molecule multitargeted kinase inhibitor. Ponatinib inhibits both native and mutant BCR-ABL. Ponatinib is used in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) with BCR-ABL kinase inhibitors. Ponatinib is the active ingredient in the drug product sold under the trade name Iclusig®, currently approved in at least one country for use in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and Philadelphia chromosome positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
