4-[3-(4-Iodophenyl)-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-2H-5-tetrazolio]-1,3-benzene disulfonate is a phase transition temperature probe that may be used to study the effects of oxidative injury on enzyme activities. It has shown antibacterial efficacy against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and anion radical scavenging abilities. 4-[3-(4-Iodophenyl)-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-2H-5-tetrazolio]-1,3-benzene disulfonate also has been shown to have nuclear DNA binding properties. The analytical method for this compound is based on benzalkonium chloride (BAC).
