Benzoyl Peroxide is a widely used organic compound of the peroxide family. Benzoyl Peroxide is often used in acne treatments , bleaching and polymerizing polyester and many other uses. Benzoyl peroxide participates in the covalent insitu functionalization of carbon nanotubes. On heating, it undergoes decomposition to afford phenyl free radicals and CO2 gas.[2] Benzoyl peroxide, an anhydrous benzoyl peroxide powder, is a mainly used as a thermal free radical initiator in polymerization reactions.

Benzoyl peroxide has been used as an initiator in the preparation of the following
• Thermal cross-linking of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) via radical-initiated reaction[2] • 3-D crosslinked carbon scaffolds[2] • poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (PLGA), MWCNT and singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) scaffolds[1] • widely used initiator, curing agent, and cross-linking agent in polymerization processes.
