2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalene exhibits antibacterial activities against oral A. viscosus, S. salivarius and moderate or weak inhibitory activity against Porphyromonas and Streptococcus. 2,3-dihydroxynaphthalene is an inhibitors of herpes simplex virus type 1 and human cytomegalovirus protease. It is also used in the making of dyes, pigments and cosmetics.
