L-15ex medium is a minimal medium based on Leibovitz L-15 basal cell culture medium. This medium, which was developed by Schirmer, et al. for studying the photocytotoxicity of polycyclic aromatic hydrodcarbons (PAHs) to the rainbow trout gill cell line, RTgill-W1 contains only salts, pyruvate and galactose. The simplicity of the medium favors expression of cellular responses to toxicants because protective molecules such as anti-oxidants are absent.

Appearance
White homogeneous free flowing powder
Solubility
Colorless, clear, complete
pH
As Reported
Directions per Liter
Dissolve 6.02g in 900ml of ddH2O with gentle stirring stirring until completely solubilized. Adjust pH of the medium to the desired level. Add additional water to bring the solution to1L. Dispense into appropriate containers, loosen caps and autoclave for 15 minutes at 121ºC (15psi). Alternatively, instead of autoclaving, the liquid can be sterile-filtered using a 0.22um membrane. Supplements can be introduced aseptically to sterile medium.
Storage and Stability
Store powdered media at RT. Stable for 12 months after receipt. Opened bottles should be capped tightly and kept in a dark, low humidity environment. Prepared media should be kept at 4°C and used within a short period of time.
