Humans are exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from occupational, environmental, and medical sources. Benzo[a]pyrene is a carcinogenic PAH found in cigarette smoke, heavily polluted air and smoked foods. A diol epoxide derivative of benzo[a]pyrene, 7 , 8 -dihydroxyn -9 ,10 -epoxy-7,8,9,10-tetrahydrobenzo[a]pyrene (BPDE-I) has been implicated as the key mutagenic benzo[a]pyrene metabolite involved in covalent modification of DNA.

Storage and StabilityMay be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

SpecificityRecognizes both free polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and DNA adducts. In an inhibition assay, the binding of B1074A to BPDE adducts was inhibited by BPDE-1-DNA, BPDE-1-dG, BPDE-1 tetraol, but not by BPDE-II-DNA.
