Rat CD4 cell surface glycoprotein is a 55kD molecule expressed by helper T cells and weakly by monocytes. Monoclonal antibodies clustered as CD4 detect most thymocytes and a subpopulation of peripheral blood T cells, called T helper cells (Th). In addition, CD4 is expressed on monocytes and macrophages. The CD4 antigen is a 55kD glycoprotein which plays a role in the recognition of foreign antigens presented to T cells by MHC class II molecules. Furthermore, CD4 acts as a receptor for HIV-1 by binding the viral protein gp120.

Applications
Suitable for use in Flow Cytometry and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilutions
Flow Cytometry: 1:100-1:200, Use 10ul to label 10e6 cells in 100ul. Immunohistochemistry: Frozen and paraffin. Reacts with paraffin-embedded material following PLP fixation (periodate-lysine-paraformaldehyde). Optimal dilution determined by the researcher

Hybridoma
NS1 myeloma cells with spleen cells from Balb/c mice.
Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Immunogen
Rat Thymocyte Membrane Glycoproteins.
Form
Supplied as a liquid in PBS, pH 7.4, 0.09% sodium azide.
Purity
Purified by Protein A affinity chromatography from tissue culture supernatant.
Specificity
Recognizes the rat CD4 cell surface glycoprotein, 55kD. Inhibits proliferation and IL-2 production in the MLR reaction.
