| Cyclin-dependent kinases (cdk) are the catalytic subunits of the cyclin/cdk complexes, which phosphorylate substrates on threonine/serine residues. Cdk2 interacts with cyclin D1, D3 and E, as well as cyclin A. Cyclin E/cdk2 kinase is active in G1- and S-phase of the cell cycle and is important for progression of cells from G1 to S. Cyclin A/cdk2 levels are maximal at the S/G2-phase transition and both are found associated with DNA in the initiation complex during replication. Rb is a substrate for cyclin E/cdk2 and cyclin A/cdk2 in vivo. |
