Cytokeratin 14 is a type I intermediate filament. It is one of the two cytokeratins that distinguish stratifying epithelial cells types from simple epithelial cell types. Cytokeratin 14 is expressed by stratifying/keratinocyte cell types, but not by simple epithelial cells.

Applications
Suitable for use in Western Blot, Immunocytochemistry and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications have not been tested.
Recommended Dilutions
Western Blot: 1:5000-1:10,000 Immunohistochemistry (Frozen): 1:100-1:200; Incubation Time: 1 hr at RT. Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin-embedded tissue): 1:50; Incubation Time: >1 hr at RT Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Immunogen
Peptide (C-VSTHEQVLRTKN) mapping to amino acids 460-472 of human Keratin 14 (UniProt accession #P02533), with an added cysteine residue at the N-terminus.
Form
Supplied as a liquid containing 0.5% BSA and 0.09% sodium azide.

Specificity
Recognizes human Acidic Keratin 14 expressed in basal and first suprabasal layers of epidermis. Reacts with Keratin 14 expressed in the basal cells of the larynx, esophagus, trachea, bladder, prostate, cervix, vagina, breast acini, skin and sweat glands. In several studies the correlation between the expression of keratin K14 in different types of carcinomas (putatively derived from basal epithelial cells) and prognosis has been discussed (see references listed below).|Species Crossreactivity: mouse. Expected to cross-react with bovine.
