FGF-basic is one of 23 known members of the FGF family. Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development, postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. FGF-basic is a non-glycosylated, heparin-binding growth factor that is expressed in the brain, pituitary, kidney, retina, bone, testis, adrenal gland, liver, monocytes, epithelial cells and endothelial cells. FGF-basic signals through FGFR 1b, 1c, 2c, 3c and 4.
Recombinant Mouse basic FGF (FGF-2) produced in E. coli is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 146aa and having a molecular mass of 16.32kD.

Biological Activity
Determined by a cell proliferation assay using Balb/c 3T3 cells. The expected ED50 is ≤ 1ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of ≥1x10e6 units/mg.
Storage and Stability
Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O, 0.1% HSA or BSA. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Source
Recombinant, E. coli
Form
Supplied as a lyophilized powder from PBS, pH 7.5. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O, 0.1% HSA or BSA to ≥0.1mg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
