Neuron specific enolase (NSE) is the neuronal form of the enolase glycolytic enzymes that catalyze the interconversion of 2-phosphoglycerate and phosphoenolpyruvate. NSE has a molecular weight of 45kD, and is expressed in normal pituitary, pinealocytes, neuroendocrine cells of the lung, thyroid, parafollicular cells, adrenal medulla, Langerhans islet cells, Merkel cells of the skin, melanocytes, normal striated muscle, and hepatocytes. NSE is a useful marker for neuroblastoma, small cell lung carcinoma, and neuroendocrine cancers.

ApplicationsSuitable for use in Western Blot, Immunocytochemistry and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.
Recommended DilutionsImmunocytochemistry: 1:1000-1:5000 using 2% paraformaldehyde fixed cells.
Immunohistochemistry: 1:1000-1:5000 using 2% paraformaldehyde fixed tissues.
Western Blot: on mouse brain extracts, shows a single band at 47kD.
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and StabilityMay be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
