| Pentraxin 2, also known as Serum Amyloid P-Component (SAP), is a hepatocyte-derived glycoprotein that is a nonfibrillar component of amyloid deposits. Pentraxins have a characteristic pentagonal discoid arrangement of five non-covalently bound subunits. Plasma levels of SAP in rat are relatively constant during an acute phase immune response. SAP functions as an opsonin and interacts with Fc-Gamma receptors.
