Chromogranin A (CGA, CHG A, Pancreastatin, Parathyroid secretory protein 1, Pituitary secretory protein I, Vasostatin, SPI)
Chromogranin A (a protein of 439 amino acid which is encoded on chromosome 14) is present in neuroendocrine cells throughout the body, including the neuroendocrine cells of the large and small intestine, adrenal medulla and pancreatic islets. It is an excellent marker for carcinoid tumors, phenochromocytomas, paragangliomas, and other neuroendocrine tumors. Coexpression of chromogranin A and neuron specific enolase (NSE) is common in neuroendocrine neoplasms. Chromogranin A (CGA) is the major member of the granin family of acidic secretory glycoproteins that are expressed in all endocrine and neuroendocrine cells. Chromogranin A regulates catecholamine storage and release through intracellular (vesiculogenic) and extracellular (catecholamine release–inhibitory) mechanisms. Chromogranin A also plays a role in targeting peptide hormones and neurotransmitters to granules of the regulated pathway by virtue of their ability to aggregate in the low-pH, high-calcium environment of the trans-Golgi network. Therefore, Chromogranin A represents a specific marker of neuroendocrine cells and tumors including pheochromocytomas.

Suitable for use in ELISA, Immunohistochemistry and Western Blot. Other applications not tested.

Recommended Dilution:
Western Blot: 1:500-1:1000
Immunohistochemistry: 1:100-1:200

Derived from hybridization of mouse F0 myeloma cells with spleen cells from BALB/c mice immunized with a recombinant human Chromogranin A protein.

Storage and Stability:
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
