Clostrisel Agar (Powder)

Catalog No: C5855

Highly selective medium for recovery of clostridia from clinical and other sources.

Clostrisel Agar was first described by Vera for the isolation of pathogenic Clostridia from mixed flora specimens (wounds, soil, feces and other contaminated material). The nutrient base for this formulation is Tryptic Soy Broth with the addition of reducing agents sodium thioglycollate and sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate which provide a low oxidation-reduction potential necessary for the growth of obligate anaerobes. Inhibition of Bacillus, Enteric bacteria, Pseudomonas, Proteus and most Gram positive organisms (except Enterococcus) is achieved by the addition of neomycin and sodium azide.

Directions per Liter:

Mix thoroughly 45 g of the powder with 1L of distilled water. Heat with frequent agitation and boil for 1 minute to dissolve the powder. Dispense into appropriate containers, loosen caps and autoclave for 15 minutes at 121ºC (15psi).

Storage and Stability:

Store powdered media at RT. Opened bottles should be capped tightly and kept in a dark, low humidity environment. Prepared media should be kept refrigerated and used within a short period of time.
