BDNF belongs to the neurotrophin family and regulates the survival and differentiation of neurons during development. The alterations in BDNF expression are induced by various kinds of brain insult including stress, ischemia, seizure activity and hypoglycemia, possibly contributing to some pathologies such as depression, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s disease. BDNF promotes the survival of neuronal populations that are all located either in the central nervous system or directly connected to it. BDNF is a major regulator of synaptic transmission and plasticity at adult synapses in many regions of the CNS. The versatility of BDNF is emphasized by its contribution to a range of adaptive neuronal responses including long-term potentiation (LTP), long-term depression (LTD), certain forms of short-term synaptic plasticity, as well as homeostatic regulation of intrinsic neuronal excitability. Subunit: Monomers and homodimers. Binds to NTRK2/TRKB.

Applications
Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry and inhibition of biological activity in vitro. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution
ELISA (1 site): 1:1000 Western Blot: 1:1000 Immunohistochemistry: 1:1000; The antiserum stains cell bodies and some nerve terminals in the dorsal horn of the rat spinal cord. However, it does not stain the finest nerve terminals. Inhibition of biological activity in vitro: 1:10-1:50 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Immunogen
Recombinant human BDNF. Cellular Localization: Secreted protein.
Form
Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Reconstitute with 100ul sterile ddH2O.
