Feline calicivirus (FCV) is a virus of the family Caliciviridae that causes disease in cats. It is one of the two important viral causes of respiratory infection in cats, the other being feline herpesvirus. FCV can be isolated from about 50 percent of cats with upper respiratory infection. Cheetahs are the other species of the family Felidae known to become infected naturally.
Applications
Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry, ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilutions
Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin): Requires antigen retrieval using heat treatment prior to staining of paraffin sections. Note: Removal of sodium azide is recommended prior to use in functional assays Optimal dilution determined by the researcher.
Recommended Pair
Capture: F0029 Feline Calcivirus (FCV) Detection: F0029-01 Feline Calcivirus (FCV) (Biotin)
Recommended Secondary Antibodies: IHC I1904-65W: IgG, F(ab’)2 (HRP) Pab Rb xMo I1904-66C: IgG, F(ab’)2 X-adsorbed (HRP) Pab Rb xMo
Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Immunogen
Highly pathogenic mutant strain of Feline Calicivirus (FCV).
Form
Supplied as a liquid in PBS, pH 7.2, 0.05% sodium azide.
Purity
Purified by Protein A affinity chromatography from tissue culture supernatant.
Specificity
Recognizes Feline Calicivirus (FCV). Does not crossreact with FIV or FeLV. Detects a 63kD band in Western Blots, representing the viral capsid protein. May also be used in immunofluorescence techniques to detect viral infection and has neutralizing activity against feline calcivirus.
