Nudel, or endooligopeptidase A, a protein highly expressed in the brain where it associates with dynein motors and Lis1, both of which have been linked to neuronal development and migration. Nudel facilitates the polymerisation of neurofilaments and the organisation of the cellular microtubule array and microtubule anchoring at the centrosome. It is required for several dynein- and microtubule-dependent processes such as the centripetal motion of secretory vesicles, coupling of the nucleus and centrosome and maintaining Golgi integrity. Nudel also serves as a Cdk5 substrate and its phosphorylation status affects its localisation in neurons.
