Located in the nerve fibers in the central and peripheral nervous system, VIP is probably acting as a neurotransmitter. The Verner-Morrison or Water Diarrhea Hypokalemia and Achlorhydria (WDHA) syndrome is a characteristic clinical syndrome associated with overproduction of VIP from endocrine tumors. VIP-producing tumors are usually neuroblastomas or endocrine tumors in the pancreas. The localization of the antigen is extracellular and cytoplasmic.
Applications
Suitable for use in RIA, ELISA and Immunoprecipitation. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution
Immunoprecipitation: 1:500 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability
Lyophilized powder may be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Reconstitute to nominal volume by adding sterile 40-50% glycerol and store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Immunogen
Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) covalently attached onto a carrier protein.
Form
Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Reconstitution with 0.1ml of 10mg/ml BSA in PBS.
Specificity
Recognizes Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide. Does not react to Atrial Natriuretic Peptide (human), Calcitonin (salmon), Calcitonin (human), CGRP (human) and PTH (human).
