Used as an anti-infective agent and has shown to be effective against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Inhibits the growth of bacteria by reversibly covalently binding to the fatty acid chain of bacterial cell membranes. This binding prevents the transfer of fatty acids from the lipids in the membrane to other parts of the cell or outside of the cell.
