2-Methoxy-N,N,β-trimethyl-10H-phenothiazine-10-propanamine Hydrochloride; 10-[3-(Dimethylamino) -2-methylpropyl]-2-methoxyphenothiazine MonoHydrochloride; 2-Methoxytrimeprazine Hydrochloride; 2-Methoxytrimeprazine
Racemic methotrimeprazine hydrochloride is a promazine derivative and an anti-psychotic drug. It is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder. Metoprimeprazine increases the release of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine in the brain. This drug also has a vasoconstrictor effect on small blood vessels, which can result in lowering blood pressure. Racemic methotrimeprazine hydrochloride is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes to form its active form, which binds to the dopamine receptor.
