EC=3.4.24.3.
Collagenases degrade native helical collagen fibrils.The substrate, collagen, is the major fibrous component of animal extracellular connective tissue: skin, tendon, blood vessels, bone, etc. Suitable for use in cell dissociation procedures.
Activity
≥125 units/mg dry weight. Caseinase: As reported Clostripain: As reported Tryptic: As reported
Unit Definition
1 unit releases 1umole of L-leucine equivalents from collagen in 5 hours at 37ºC, pH 7.5.
Absorbance (A280)
As Reported
Collagenase nomenclature
Type 1: Crude collagenase has the original balance of collagenase, caseinase, clostripain and tryptic activities. Type 2: Contains higher relative levels of protease activity, particularly clostripain Type 3: Contains lowest levels of secondary proteases Type 4: Designed to be especially low in tryptic activity to limit damage to membrane proteins
