Secreted Ly-6/uPAR-related protein 1, SLURP1, is a 9kD secreted member of the Ly-6/uPAR protein superfamily. Human SLURP1 is synthesized as a 103aa precursor that contains a 21aa signal sequence and an 82aa mature chain. Like other members of the Ly-6/uPAR family, SLURP1 contains a Ly-6/uPAR domain (aa24-73) and ten cysteine residues that make up five disulfide bonds. Unlike other family members, however, SLURP1 does not contain a GPI anchor. Mature human SLURP1 shares 67% and 68% aa identity with mouse and rat SLURP1, respectively. The protein forms a homodimer and is expressed in skin, eye, whole lung, trachea, esophagus, and stomach. In humans, SLURP1 is involved in maintaining the integrity of the kerotinocyte layers of the skin and has demonstrated antitumor activity.
