THEM2 is a 140aa enzyme with hydrolase activity belonging to the thioesterase superfamily and UPF0152 (paal) family. Human THEM2 contains a hotdog-fold and forms a back-to-back tetramer with the active site located in an inter-subunit cleft. The biological function of THEM2 is yet unknown. The role of THEM2 and Pax3 (paired box gene 3) as PC-TP-interacting proteins has been determined by using yeast two-hybrid screening. Small interference RNA silencingDta suggest that the gene encoding THEM2 is essential for the cell sustained proliferation. THEM2 is highly expressed in kidney, and moderately in liver, brain, large intestine, and small intestine. THEM2 is colocalized with microtubules and is implicated in the genetic background of developmental dyslexia.
